Celebrating 100 Years of Excellence: Rapidase’s History
As Oenobrands celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Rapidase® brand, we reflect on a journey that started in the early days of industrial biotechnology. Our production facility in Seclin, France, has been a pioneer in enzyme innovation since it was founded.

Founded in 1922, Rapidase was developed by Auguste Boidin and Jean Effront, who were among the first to commercialise bacterial amylase. This enzyme, pivotal in the processing of starches, laid the groundwork for a legacy of breakthroughs in enzyme technology.
The brand’s development continued under the leadership of firms such as Gist-Brocades and DSM then dsm-firmenich, resulting in advances in a variety of enzyme classes such as Amylases, Proteases, and Pectinases.
Rapidase’s role expanded significantly in the wine industry, emphasizing the core values that define its operations today: dsm-firmenich quality, speed, precision, and tailored applications for each winemaking process.
